Graduate profile

The graduate of the Program Master in Bioengineering will be able to interpret and complement research methodologies necessary to give technical solutions to the needs of today's medicine. This training is integrated with knowledge of medicine, biology, electronics, computers, and all those areas related to the objectives of the program.

On the other hand, the graduate will participate in research and support for researchers who share responsibility for the welfare of the medical community as a whole. In universities will be required not only for research but also to develop new devices, methods of measurement, diagnostic and analytical, and certainly this will be laying the groundwork for future job opportunities in areas and/or sectors related.


Curricular Structure Estructura and Plan of Studies

The plan of studies is divided into four (4) academic periods of 14 weeks, equivalent to two (2) years. For graduation of the program of Master of Bioengineering, will be required to approve at least a total of 30 credit units, a graduation work according to the standards required by the university and Program Coordination.

For the purposes of information about the academic and enrollment periods, the applicant must address the Commission on Graduate Studies, Faculty of Engineering UCV.

The course is organized by:

  1. One set of subjects and other modalities to be developed by the students in 4 academic periods.
  2. Includes the approval of at least a total of 30 credit units.
  3. A Graduation Work
  4. A set of lines of investigation and areas of work for the assignment of students.

In this program, and in accordance with the Regulations of Graduate Studies at UCV, the students according to their individual plan of study, to avoid duplication and enhance the use of time for production and the academic achievement of its objectives, are listed three resources:

  1. The recognition of credits (articles 54 and 55 of the Rules of Graduate Studies at UCV) previously approved in other graduate programs.
  2. Allocation of credits (articles 57 and 58 of the Rules of Graduate Studies at UCV) by other modes curriculum and its academic and professional career.
  3. Assessment of sufficiency (Article 56 of Regulations of Graduate Studies at UCV).

The distribution of credit units of the curriculum designed individually by the candidate with the assistance of the Academic Committee and/or guardian, will be built in a general way, as follows:


Objective of the curricular subjects and other modalities

  • Subjects: Provide the minimum knowledge needed to manage and develop concepts inherent in the investigation. States that the Academic Committee can locate the materials to be taken by the students at any institution known history in Venezuela.
  • Publications: to encourage students to interact with national and international scientific community to present the developments related to the subject of investigation. Guide the students in methodological issues concerning the development of scientific articles.
  • Research Seminars: Build an appropriate environment for discussion with specialists in the field, leading to the optimization of the methodology used by the students during the different stages of the investigation.

  • Defined maximum of three seminars as follows:
    • First seminar: Presentation of the draft Degree thesis.
    • Second Seminar: Advances Thesis I.
    • Third Seminar: Advances Thesis II.

    Will be evaluated by a jury of three (3) members, all with a Master's level at least.

  • Internship: Strengthening the knowledge acquired during the evolution of the studies of Masters, through theoretical and/or practical activities in mutual agreement between the Academic Committee, the center and host the students. Optimize and promote joint cooperation in new research projects with other institutes and national universities and/or international. The internship must be carried out in a Center Institute, University or Business with known theoretical or practical background in the research area in which the students will unwrap. The internship will have a supervisor belonging to the host center, while the academic supervisor will be the guardian of the students. The internship may take place in the country or abroad. The internship can be started from the third academic period.

The Graduation Work must be a scientific contribution or professional role in the specialty chosen to demonstrate skill in handling conceptual and methodological corresponding to the foreground. The project's Labor Grade will be formulated in conjunction with the supervisor after at most, the first year after the start of the study plan, and with two (2) years from the time when it is part of the project, for finalization (Article 25-d of the Rules of Graduate Studies at UCV).

Note: all subjects and other curricular arrangements are scheduled to be taken and evaluated in Venezuela, unless the Academic Committee confirms the relevance that they are conducted at other institutions at the international level.


Allocation of Credits

All curricular arrangements should be linked with the progress made during the Labor Grade. Establishes the following schedule of allocation of credits:

  • Two (2) units of credit for each article published in magazines arbitrated. Up to two (2) publications. If the publication is created in a journal is indexed in the Science Citation Index (SCI), will be assigned four (4) units of credit.
  • Two (2) units of credit for each article published "in full" in the memories of events such as conferences and symposia. Up to two (2) publications.
  • Two (2) units of credit for each research seminar. Up to a maximum of three (3) seminars.
  • Four (4) units of credit up by a internship of three (3) months.

The units of credit linked to the materials depend on the selection of the same, respecting the allocation of credit established by the Commission on Graduate of the Faculty to which they belong.

We will not be allocated credits to matters of leveling.

The recognition of credits will be based on the provisions of Article 57 of Regulations of Graduate Studies of the UCV.


Plan of Studies

The Plan of Studies is individualized, meaning that the quantity of courses with their programmatic content, will be selected depending of the needs of the research line in which they insert the students on the basis of the existing supply in the various postgraduate at the national level. The duration of the Postgraduate be governed by the terms of the Regulations of Graduate Studies of the UCV.

Should the candidate required courses leveling, the Academic Committee, after the interview with the applicant, will select those courses needed to be taken by the candidate.
